The short version
Skylog collects no personal data. There is no account, no sign-in, no email address, no analytics, and no advertising of any kind. All GPS data (your routes, distances, durations, and altitudes) is stored locally on your device. iCloud sync uses Apple's CloudKit, so your journeys move only between your own devices, encrypted by Apple. We never see them.
What we collect
Nothing in the traditional sense. Skylog does not collect, store on our servers, or transmit any personally identifiable information.
All journey data (GPS route points, distances, durations, altitude readings, travel modes, and titles) is stored locally on your device using SwiftData. It never leaves your device unless you are signed into iCloud, in which case it syncs only to your own other devices (see iCloud Sync below).
Location data
Skylog uses your device's GPS to record route coordinates while you are actively recording a journey. Location access is requested only when you start a recording and is used exclusively to log your route.
Background location is required to continue logging while your screen is off or while you switch apps mid-journey. Skylog never accesses your location when you are not actively recording.
GPS coordinates are stored as route points on your device and are never transmitted to us or any third party.
iCloud sync
If you are signed into iCloud on your device, Skylog uses Apple's CloudKit private database to sync your journeys across your own devices. This is automatic and requires no additional setup.
When iCloud sync is active, the following data is stored in your personal iCloud account:
- Journey titles, dates, distances, durations, and travel modes
- GPS route point coordinates for each journey
- Altitude readings and elevation metadata
This data is stored in your private CloudKit container and is not accessible to us or to any other user. It is governed by Apple's iCloud privacy policy. You can delete your journeys at any time from within the app, which removes them from all synced devices.
If you are not signed into iCloud, data remains entirely on-device and no sync occurs.
Analytics and tracking
Skylog contains no analytics SDK, no crash reporter, no ad network, and no third-party tracking of any kind. We do not know how many times you have opened the app, which features you use, or anything about your behaviour within it.
We have deliberately chosen to forgo crash reporting and usage analytics to maintain a genuinely privacy-respecting product.
In-app purchases
Skylog Pro is available as a one-time in-app purchase. All payment processing is handled entirely by Apple's StoreKit and the App Store. We never see, store, or handle any payment information.
Purchase records are managed by Apple and are subject to Apple's privacy policy.
Advertising
There are no ads in Skylog, and there never will be. The app is free to download and supported by a single one-time Pro purchase.
Children
Skylog is rated 4+ on the App Store. Because we collect no personal data, there are no special considerations for users under 13. No data is collected from any user, regardless of age.
Data retention and deletion
Since all data is stored locally on your device (and in your own iCloud account if signed in), you have full control over it. You can delete individual journeys from within the app, or delete all data by uninstalling the app.
Skylog has no server-side user accounts, so there is no "delete my account" process. There is no account to delete.
Changes to this policy
If we ever change this privacy policy in a meaningful way, we will update this page and the date at the top. We will never retroactively introduce data collection on existing users without clear, explicit notice.
